Celebrating Iowa

Collage of images from Iowa CampusThe University of Iowa opened with a bang and flash of intelligence on February 25, 1847. It was the day a meteor crashing south of Marion, Iowa, was heard throughout the area, and the day Iowa legislators established Iowa’s first public institution of higher education.

This year marks its 170th anniversary, and the University has much to celebrate. Currently, Times Higher Education ranks the UI as one of the top 250 universities in the world, U.S. News & World Report ranks it #33 as a “Best Public University,” and the American Institute for Economic Research ranks it #5 for a best college town in America.

This year on February 25, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics opened the Stead Family Children’s Hospital as hospital staff moved in their first patient and began operations in the new facility.

The University of Iowa Alumni Association is celebrating 150 years of strengthening the university through alumni engagement. Through the Iowa Alumni Magazine, career webinars, regional IOWA Club events, social media engagement, and mentorships, the UI Alumni Association is the trusted resource for all loyal Hawkeyes who want to remain engaged with the UI community.

Help celebrate all the great things the UI has done by using #iloveUIOWA and make this year just as flashy as 1847!
